Gobbledigook

Sigur Rós released the first track from their forthcoming album Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust this week.  The title apparently translates into English as, “With a buzz in our ears we play endlessly.”  Their fifth LP will be released on XL on June 24th (XL has really been churning out good music lately e.g. Radiohead, The Raconteurs, M.I.A., [...]

I ♥ Chan

Charlyn “Chan” Marshall a.k.a. Cat Power released her eighth album Jukebox earlier this spring.  It is her second album of reworked cover songs.  Jukebox is a carefully picked selection of songs spanning musical genres.  It feels really personal like a mix tape.  Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Joni Mitchell, Frank Sinatra, and Billie Holiday are just a [...]

A. Bird

Andrew Bird released a European tour EP a while back to accompany his most recent release Armchair Apocrypha.  I just got a hold of it the other day and thought I would throw it up.  Soldier On is actually quite lengthy for an EP with eight tracks the first of which goes on 6:29.  Like most [...]

One blink for yes. Two blinks for no.

I saw Los Campesinos! last night in thier first performance in Washington DC.   The seven piece indie pop group from England blew up the crowded stage with an incredibly fun and energetic show at the Black Cat.  I don’t know how else to describe their music other than quirky, gitty, spastic, and…happy.  Reminscent of Arcade Fire and [...]

There There

I am still reeling from the effects of Sunday night.  5/11/2008 had been marked on my calendar for quite some time because I had tickets to see Radiohead at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA.  Not to be dramatic but Radiohead was on the very short list of “bands to see before I die.”  The day started off with [...]

The Kills under a Blue Moon

I ventured into the historic U Street Corridor in DC and then down to the Black Cat to see The Kills last night.  The indie rock duo formed by Alison “VV” Mosshart and Jamie “Hotel” Hince is electrifying.  The Kills’ music is a raw lo-fi blend of blues, punk, and pop.  The show was HOT. [...]

Langhorne and Bourbon

I celebrated my 23 birthday last night in Washington DC.  I am interning at the National Taxpayers Union in Alexandria and living in Foggy Bottom for the summer.  I love DC, the atmosphere, the weather, the food, and of coarse the music scene.  DC has a robust and eclectic music scene.  I am really excited for [...]
